About

Thomas D. Mooney is a journalist and writer from the Far West Texas town of Ft. Stockton, Texas. The son of an elementary school teacher and horse trailer manufacturer, he spent much of his childhood daydreaming his way through manual labor, hard work, and the cab of a work truck. After moving to the Panhandle Hub of Lubbock, Texas, he quickly became infatuated with the local music scene where he established a small music blog called New Slang. His work has been read in the likes of Rolling Stone, Texas Monthly, Texas Music Magazine, Holler, and Lone Star Music Magazine. He hosts the podcasts New Slang and The Neon Eon. Most weekends, he can be found talking shop in the corner near the bar at The Blue Light Live. He likes Lone Star beer, Topo Chico, Desert Door Texas Sotol, Terry Allen art, Turnpike Troubadours records, Guy Clark stories, The Dallas Mavericks, Texas Tech Red Raiders, denim shirts, cowboy hats, vinyl records, Cormac McCarthy novels, West Texas murals, and a good cup of coffee.

“Imagine Lomax with a beer, brisket tacos, and a Stetson.”
